In the summer of 1996, Wayne Gretzky made his fourth and final stop of his NHL career in The Big Apple. Now, at the age of 35, Gretzky and the Rangers both knew that he could provide great value to an emerging New York squad despite coming to them outside of his prime. Paired with his former Oilers line mate, Mark Messier, Gretzky gave Broadway the best show it had seen in years, rallying the Rangers to an Eastern Conference Finals appearance behind his league leading 72 assists during the ‘96-‘97 season. Although his time in New York was short lived and did not produce any Stanley Cup championships, Gretzky’s entire career will go down as the greatest of all time on a one way track to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
